Let’s face it. You will never call us asking to replace your roof because you don’t like its color. You’ll call us because you have a concern, or after decades of service your roof has started to fail.

When you call you’ll have questions. What material should I use?  What will it cost? Does it matter who installs it?  All of these are valid questions and at Hudson’s Restorations, we will sit down with you and explain the Good, Better, Best roofing systems and which one is right for you. We’ll also talk about our craftsmanship and our ability to properly install your roofing system.

We call it a roofing system, because your roof is actually a complex arrangement of interlocking components—from the bare decking to the ventilation and everything in between —that must all work together to create a powerful barrier against everything Mother Nature throws at it. That is the only way to ensure that your home is protected.

Roof Components

This is the system of flat panels that are attached to the trusses of your home and form the base layer of the roof itself. Usually made of construction-grade plywood or 1″ x 12″s.

There are three types of underlayment—Felt, Synthetic and Peel & Stick. Probably 90% of roofers now used the synthetic over the traditional felt due to its greater strength and durability.  The self-adhesive Peel & Stick underlayment is generally reserved for a lower slope pitch—between 2:12 and 4:12 as code requires.

Another critical component is the starter shingle or starter roll that must be used on the eaves of your roof. The shingle is nailed to the roof. We use a starter roll which is a peel & stick product. This stops water from getting to your decking caused by clogged gutters.

The asphalt shingle is one of the most widely used roofing covers in North America.

Asphalt Shingles come in three standard design options: 3-Tab, Architectural and Dimensional. 3-Tab are essentially flat simple shingles with a uniform shape and size. Architectural  shingles are thicker and stronger, vary in shape and size, and offer more aesthetic appeal. Dimensional are your thickest shingle with the longest lifespan.

Flashing is metal that seals areas of the roof on walls, chimneys, skylights and other areas as needed to prevent water from leaking through a gap between the object and the roof. Also used in high volume flow areas like valleys and joints.

Ridge vents, off ridge vents and solar vents are popular ventilation systems that help keep your attic cooler and extends the lifespan of the shingle.
