Insurance Claims

Let Us be Your Advocate

For years we have been working with insurance companies on behalf of the homeowner. Even when their claim was initially denied, we successfully convinced the insurance company to reopen the claim and got it approved — all without the need of an attorney or public adjuster.

According to NOAA there were 14 separate billion-dollar weather/climate disaster events across the US in 2018—with a total cost of $91 billion. This of course, doesn’t include the strong thunderstorm winds that dropped a tree branch on your roof.

After a hurricane, hailstorm, damaging winds or tornado, navigating the insurance claim process can be challenging. Our knowledgeable and experienced team at Hudson’s Restorations will assist and guide you through the sometimes confusing and adversarial insurance claim process.

WHAT TO DO

AFTER THE STORM

In the event a passing storm causing damage to your property, there are a few things you should do to ensure a a quick and smooth repair process. However, there is one thing we strongly advise. Please DO NOT climb your roof. When the storm clears, and you want to check for any damage, take a look at your roof  from the ground. You can use binoculars to determine any damage, but climbing up on the roof is where a homeowner can get hurt. Instead, call Hudson’s Restorations and have our specialists assess your roof, at no charge.

WIND DAMAGE

Not all wind damage is visible. Even if your roof appears to be okay, shingles can bend and crack causing severe damage. Damage to your roof can begin at around 50 mph, even when the shingle is rated for higher wind tolerance. Wind is capable of getting under corners  and/or small pieces of the shingle which can curl it, or rip it off completely. This will leave your roof exposed in those areas, leading to leaks.

Another danger of high winds to your roof is shingle “lifting.” This can be hard to see unless you’re actually looking for it, because the shingles look intact from the ground. High winds coming up over a roof can create a suction effect and “lift” the shingles upwards, loosening the nails which are holding them down. When this happens, the sealant between each layer can be broken, leading to leaks.

Much of this type of damage cannot be seen from the ground. Let Hudson’s Restorations conduct a FREE on-site inspection of your roof to determine whether or not your roof was damaged.

HAIL DAMAGE

Even if your roof appears to be okay, a hailstorm can result in hidden damage. Hail can actually “bruise” the shingle or membrane of your roofing system, weakening the protection your roof provides for your home.

SIGNS OF HAIL DAMAGE:

1.  What seems like random damage with no pattern.

2.  Hail hits that are black in color.

3.  Loss of granules, which sometimes expose the fiberglass in the shingle.

4.  Look for hail impacts – called “splatter marks” – on your driveway, mailbox, gutters, fences and screens.

Let the professionals from Hudson’s Restorations conduct an on-site inspection of your roof to determine whether or not your roof  has been damaged.

Beware of “Storm Chasers”

After a named storm, so-called “roofing experts”  flock into town to take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners. Make sure the company you choose to inspect and repair your roof is a licensed, state-certified roofing contractor with a solid reputation in the area.

THE INSURANCE CLAIM PROCESS

STEP 1: Inspect your roof for damage

One of our inspectors will evaluate your roof for wind and hail damage as well as any other roofing concerns.

STEP 2: Contact Insurance Company and Initiate Claim

If your home has sustained adequate damage, our specialist will spend time helping you initiate the insurance claim. We will report the date of loss and inform the company of the damage your roof has sustained and provide any roof details the insurance company requires. At this time, the claim number will be generated and an adjuster will be assigned.

STEP 3: Meet The Adjuster

Our claims specialist, with you, will schedule a time to meet with the insurance adjuster at your property. Together, the adjuster and our representative will evaluate the storm damage your home has sustained. We are there to ensure you receive your full entitlement under the terms of your policy.  If roof damage is extensive, you may be required to bring your entire roof (not just the damaged portion) up to current building code standards. Florida building code states if more than 25% of the roof is damaged, then the entire roof must be replaced. Some adjusters come from out of state and are not familiar with Florida Building Code. We provide the necessary documentation to your adjuster so they will adhere to current codes.

STEP 4: Settlement Issued and Contract Signed

Your insurance company will issue a Loss Summary, which details the scope of work that they are willing to pay for. They will also issue the first of two checks to begin the construction process. A member of our team will meet with you at your home to review the summary, sign a contract, collect the initial payment and schedule the install date.

STEP 5: Roof Installation

The night before we begin your roof, a dumpster will be delivered and secured on your property. The next day, we’ll tarp the sides of your house to catch any debris and start the tear-off process. Soon after a material delivery will be made to your rooftop and proper installation ensues. Upon completion, we roll magnets to pick up errant nails, walk the entire property to inspect  and clean up your grounds, then provide a final blow off of all concrete ground and porches. We take pride in installing your new roof correctly and making sure your property is spotless when we leave. A project manager is always on site to keep the crew on schedule and communicate with you the progress and any wood damage that may be uncovered.

STEP 6: Certificate of Completion

Our roofing specialist will review the entire job with you to ensure your satisfaction. A certificate of completion will be signed and sent to your insurance company to release the depreciated value. Upon receipt of final payment, Hudson’s Restorations will present you with the warranty and any other required documents.
